NPS Tightens Security, Warns Against Lawlessness During Saba Saba

The National Police Service (NPS) has announced that it will deploy enhanced police checkpoints across various roads in Nairobi on Tuesday, July 7, as part of security measures during the Saba Saba commemoration.

In a notice issued on Monday, July 6, the police said the move is intended to maintain peace and order and prevent disruptions that have been witnessed during previous Saba Saba commemorations.

According to the NPS, past commemorations have occasionally been marked by breaches of peace that interfered with normal business operations and the daily activities of people not participating in the demonstrations.

To enhance security, the service said checkpoints will be established on various roads across Nairobi to monitor and regulate both human and vehicular movement throughout the city.

The NPS urged residents, motorists, and other road users to cooperate with officers on duty to facilitate smooth operations and help maintain public order.

The police also warned that any unlawful acts committed during the Saba Saba commemoration would be dealt with in accordance with the law.

The security advisory comes just days after the police service dismissed allegations linking its officers to abductions, maintaining that the claims are false and unsupported by any credible evidence.

According to the NPS, all arrests conducted by its officers are carried out in line with the Constitution and established legal procedures, including proper documentation in the Occurrence Book (OB) and presenting suspects before court within the prescribed timelines.

The service further stated that it has no involvement in any reported abductions and urged members of the public to verify information before sharing it.

It also encouraged anyone with credible information regarding missing persons or alleged abductions to report the matter to the nearest police station for investigation.
