Morara Kebaso Defends Jubilee Move Amid Backlash From Kenyans

Political activist and Borabu parliamentary aspirant Morara Kebaso has defended his decision to join the Jubilee Party after facing criticism from Kenyans over his latest political move.

Taking to his X account on Wednesday, July 1, Kebaso responded to media personality Lynn Ngugi, arguing that working within the existing political system was necessary to bring about meaningful change.

His response came after Ngugi questioned his decision to join Jubilee despite previously positioning himself as a leader committed to challenging the political establishment.

She also pointed to the party’s record while in government, citing unresolved issues surrounding public land, procurement, corruption scandals and abuse of public office.

In response, Kebaso maintained that anyone seeking elective office must understand the realities of politics on the ground and make strategic decisions based on the prevailing political environment.

The politician, who has declared his interest in the Borabu parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election, argued that political affiliation plays a significant role in determining electoral success in his constituency.

He said support for former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and the Jubilee Party remains strong in the Gusii region, making the party the most practical political vehicle for his bid.

Kebaso added that he chose to align himself with Matiang’i because he believes the former Interior CS has both a strong leadership record and a realistic chance of winning the 2027 presidential election.

While acknowledging concerns over Jubilee’s past record in government, Kebaso insisted that lasting reforms are more likely to be achieved from within established political parties than from outside them.

His remarks come just days after he announced that he had shelved his Inject Party in favour of Jubilee, citing political realities in the Gusii region.

He also expressed confidence that he would secure the Borabu parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.
