Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested Nyamira County Assembly Deputy Director of Accounts over corruption allegations amounting to KSh 30 million.
EACC confirmed the arrest of the assembly official on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, after he was accused of procurement irregularities in the award of a tender for the construction of an office block at the assembly.
According to the commission, the arrest followed investigations into the alleged irregular award of a tender to a particular company, despite the company not being the lowest evaluated bidder.
“The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested the Deputy Clerk/Director, Finance and Accounts of the Nyamira County Assembly, over alleged procurement irregularities in the award of a tender for the construction of an office block at the County Assembly of Nyamira”, the commission stated.
According to the preliminary findings, the decision to award the contract to the firm resulted in an alleged unlawful financial benefit amounting to Ksh30 million to the contractor.
The anti-graft agency further stated that upon completion of investigations, it forwarded the inquiry file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), which approved charges against the official and five other suspects.
The suspects face multiple charges, including abuse of office, willful failure to comply with laws relating to the management of public funds, and negligence of official duty.
