Digital content creator Sharon Mwangi has recently disclosed to her followers that at times she sacrifices important activities, like her planned time with God, just to scroll through different social media platforms.
Trekking to her YouTube channel, the content creator noted that social media has become one of her major addictions and she has been trying to overcome it.
“Hey guys, so I’m back home and I just need to yap for a second. I have this social media addiction that I’ve been trying to beat. My screen time is crazy, I scroll mindlessly, my attention span is horrible… it even takes away from my personal time that I could have used to do other things—more meaningful things. Even my time with God, I find myself sacrificing that so I can come online and scroll mindlessly.’’

According to Sharon she has however adopted a helpful habit from a friend to reduce her screen time in the mornings, but she’s still struggling with the issue and knows she can do better.
“I’ve really been trying to beat it, and I saw Yvonne Kanyi talk about how she doesn’t come on social media until 12 p.m. to avoid spending her morning hours online. I’ve adopted that, and it’s been really helpful, but I still scroll before going to bed, and I don’t know how to curb that… but it’s okay, baby steps.’’
She moreover revealed her plans to set a new goal by deactivating her social media platforms for three weeks.
“At the end of the year, I want to do a 21-day fast where I don’t come on social media at all. But if you know any other tips I can try, please share.’’
She concluded by encouraging people to send her tried-and-tested tips for overcoming social media addiction.
