Former MP Succumbs to Heart Attack

Former Cabinet Minister and Kilgoris Member of Parliament (MP) Gideon Sitelu Konchella has died after reportedly suffering a cardiac arrest.

According to reports, the former MP passed away on Saturday, June 13, while undergoing treatment at a Nairobi hospital after a long illness.

Konchellah served as Kilgoris MP for several terms, between 2003 and 2022, under various parties, including the Party of National Unity (PNU), the United Republican Party (URP), and the Jubilee Party.

During his tenure as a Minister, he oversaw the landmark Refugee Act of 2006, which strengthened the country’s refugee management and legal framework.

His death was confirmed by the current Kilgoris MP Julius Sunkuli who described the deceased as both his predecessor and successor in Parliament.

“I have sadly learnt of the death of the Honourable Gideon Konchellah, former MP for Kilgoris Constituency. The late Konchellah was both my predecessor and successor,” he said.

“He served Kilgoris for 20 years, but the cruel hand of death has taken his life. May God rest him in eternal peace,” Sunkuli added.
