Police Nab Two in Mandera Phone Theft Crackdown, Recover Stolen Handsets

Two suspected phone snatchers have been apprehended following an intelligence-led operation by National Police Service officers in Mandera East Sub-County.

Acting on tip-offs, officers moved into the Kona B area of Mandera Town and arrested the two suspects.

“Acting on intelligence, the officers conducted an operation in the Kona B area of Mandera Town, leading to the arrest of the two suspects, who are believed to be members of a local phone-snatching syndicate”, part of the statement read.

The duo are believed to be part of a local phone-snatching syndicate.

A search of their rented house in the same area led to the recovery of four stolen mobile phones.

Officers subsequently traced the rightful owners, who visited the police station and positively identified their phones.

The arrest was confirmed by the National Police Service (NPS) who reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling criminal networks, saying such operations will continue across the country.

“The National Police Service remains steadfast in its commitment to serving and protecting the public. Operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks will continue across the country”, the statement added.

The two are currently in custody awaiting police arraignment.
