DCI Nabs Key Suspect in Githurai Roundabout Car Burning Incident

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have apprehended a content creator suspected of participating in the torching of a vehicle at Githurai Roundabout.

According to reports, the incident took place during the recent fuel-related protests.

In a statement, the DCI revealed that the suspect was arrested in Ruiru after detectives pursued leads linked to the arson incident that occurred during the demonstrations

This was after gathering crucial evidence connecting the suspect to the attack, which saw a vehicle set ablaze amid violent scenes at the busy roundabout.

“Detectives have arrested a suspect believed to have been involved in the arson attack on a motor vehicle at Githurai Roundabout during the recent violent fuel-related demonstrations,” the DCI said in a statement.

The suspect is currently in custody, awaiting processing and arraignment, as detectives seek to identify and apprehend other individuals believed to have participated in the criminal act.

The agency reiterated that violence, arson and destruction of property remain serious criminal offences and warned that all those found culpable would face the full force of the law.

Additionally, the DCI revealed that it had obtained and was analysing viral videos circulating online, which were believed to contain footage of some of the individuals involved in the attack.

“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has received and is currently analysing viral video footage that is believed to feature individuals among the prime suspects involved in the torching of a Mazda CX-5 along Thika Road during today’s protests,” it added.

The arrest comes after a Mazda CX-5 belonging to a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) politician was torched along Thika Road during the fuel protests on May 19.
