Man Dies After Alleged Surgery at Illegal Clinic, Probe Underway

The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) have launched investigations into the death of a man who reportedly died after undergoing a surgical procedure at an unregistered medical facility in Trans Nzoia County.

According to KMPDC, it had commenced a formal inquiry into the conduct of the medical practitioner allegedly involved in the incident that led to the death of Brian Simiyu.

In a statement, council said it had been alerted to the case through reports from the County Government of Trans Nzoia and had already begun gathering evidence to establish the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

“KMPDC has commenced a formal inquiry into the conduct of the medical practitioner allegedly involved in this incident,” part of the statement read.

According to the council, investigators are collecting clinical records, witness statements and any available footage that could help determine what transpired before Simiyu’s death.

Preliminary findings indicate that the alleged procedure was carried out in premises that were unregistered, unlicensed and unsuitable for undertaking such medical treatment.

In response to the matter, KMPDC warned that any practitioner or facility found culpable would face disciplinary action, including suspension, revocation of practising licences, deregistration and possible criminal prosecution.
