EACC Cracks Down on Police Officers Over Ksh100,000 Bribe Allegations in Kisii

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has nabbed two senior police officers attached to Kitutu Central Sub-County and Nyanchwa Police Station over allegations of soliciting and receiving a bribe.

According to the commission, the officers are accused of demanding money from a complainant in exchange for facilitating the arrest of an individual allegedly involved in a land dispute within Nyanchwa Estate in Kisii County.

The officers, a DCIO and a Chief Inspector, had allegedly demanded Ksh100,000 to act on the matter, prompting EACC detectives to launch investigations into the claims.

Following surveillance operations, the officers were arrested on Friday, May 28, after allegedly receiving a partial payment of Ksh40,000 from the complainant during a controlled sting operation.

“The arrests followed a complaint alleging that the officers demanded Kes100,000 to facilitate the arrest of an individual accused of illegally taking possession of a parcel of land within Nyanchwa Estate, Kisii County, and putting up structures on it,โ€ EACC said.

The suspects were escorted to the EACC Kisii Regional Office for processing before being released on cash bail of Ksh50,000 each, pending completion of investigations.

Upon the arrests, EACC revealed that the arrests were part of ongoing efforts to curb corruption within public service institutions, particularly those involving abuse of office for personal gain.
