Barcelona have reached an agreement with Newcastle United to sign England international winger Anthony Gordon in a deal worth £69.3 million including add ons.
Reports from England indicate that Gordon is expected to travel to Barcelona on Thursday to complete his medical ahead of the official announcement of the transfer.
The 25 year old winger leaves Newcastle after an impressive season where he finished as the club’s top scorer with 17 goals across all competitions.
Gordon also enjoyed an outstanding Champions League campaign scoring 10 goals, a tally only surpassed by Kylian Mbappe and Harry Kane during the competition. The former Everton player signed a long term contract extension with Newcastle in October 2024 and still had four years remaining on his deal at St James’ Park.
However, the winger was left out of Newcastle’s last four matches of the season with reports suggesting the club wanted to avoid any injury risk ahead of a possible summer transfer. Before Barcelona entered the race, German champions Bayern Munich had also shown strong interest in signing Gordon as they sought to strengthen their attacking options.
Barcelona are now expected to complete the transfer before the upcoming World Cup tournament.

The England international is mainly known for playing on the left wing but has also impressed when deployed through the middle because of his pace, movement and finishing ability.
Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick is reportedly keen on adding more attacking depth to his squad especially with veteran striker Robert Lewandowski expected to leave the club. The arrival of Gordon is also expected to raise questions about the future of Marcus Rashford whose loan spell at Barcelona from Manchester United F.C. could face uncertainty.
Reports indicate Rashford is interested in remaining at Barcelona permanently and is even willing to reduce his salary to secure a stay at the Spanish giants. Manchester United are however understood to prefer a permanent transfer rather than another loan arrangement.
Since joining Newcastle from Everton, Gordon has developed into one of England’s most exciting attacking players helping Newcastle qualify for European football and compete strongly in domestic competitions. The winger’s performances in the Champions League this season particularly attracted attention from top European clubs due to his consistency against elite opposition.
Newcastle fans have expressed mixed reactions online with many disappointed to lose one of the club’s key players while others believe the transfer fee represents good business for the club.
Barcelona supporters meanwhile have welcomed the move with many hopeful that Gordon’s pace and attacking qualities will strengthen the team ahead of next season.
