The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed the apprehension of Jacaranda Bunge la Mwananchi leader Evans Kawala.
In a statement on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, the DCI confirmed Kawala’s arrest stating that the 33-year-old was arrested on Tuesday evening following allegations of making inflammatory public utterances aimed at President William Ruto.
According to the DCI, Kawala’s remarks that circulated online are highly inciteful and a serious threat to public cohesion and national stability.
“Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a suspect linked to inflammatory public utterances that have gone viral across social media platforms, with content deemed highly inciteful and a serious threat to public cohesion and national stability”, the authority stated.
The detectives from the Operations Support Unit (OSU) arrested Kawala at a mall in the Kayole area in Nairobi during an operation.
This dismisses claims that the Bunge la Mwananchi member had been abducted, as was alleged by various leaders in the opposition.
Kawala was particularly arrested following comments about President Ruto after an incident in Ganze, Kilifi County, when his security was breached and a man accessed the head of State before his security could intervene.
He is currently in custody awaiting arraignment in court.
