Suspected Al-Shabaab Hideout Destroyed in Coordinated Security Operation

The National Police Service (NPS) has reported the successful dismantling of a suspected Al-Shabaab camp following a coordinated security operation conducted in the Digdiga general area, where security officers engaged militants in a fierce exchange of fire.

According to the NPS, the joint operation targeted a site located at Qanjara Durow, which had been identified as a suspected hideout for the militant group.

Security teams first established a forward position near Gel Qad Junction before advancing towards the target area where they encountered armed resistance from suspected Al-Shabaab operatives.

A gun battle ensued, during which the security personnel managed to overpower the militants and secure control of the area.

The operation resulted in the dismantling of the camp after additional militants present at the site were neutralised.

Following the clearance of the area, officers conducted a thorough search of the camp and recovered a range of materials believed to be linked to militant activities.

These included communication equipment, materials suspected to be used in the manufacture and deployment of improvised explosive devices (IEDs), ammunition, uniforms, food supplies, and other logistical items believed to have supported the group’s operations.

The recovered items were secured by the security team and are currently undergoing further examination as investigations continue.

Authorities indicated that the findings will assist in understanding the operational structure and supply chains of the militants in the region.

The National Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining security and protecting communities across the country.

It noted that ongoing coordinated operations remain a key strategy in degrading extremist networks and preventing the planning and execution of attacks against civilians and security installations.

The NPS further urged members of the public to continue cooperating with security agencies by reporting any suspicious activities to support efforts aimed at ensuring lasting peace and stability.
