High Court Upholds Auction Process for Tuju’s Dari Business Park

Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju has suffered a huge blow after the High Court cleared the way for the auction of his multi-billion-shilling property in Karen.

According to reports, the court allowed the auction of Tuju’s Dari Business Park to proceed, with the proceeds set to be used to recover a loan he obtained from a commercial bank.

Despite that, the court temporarily stopped the sale of another property linked to the former CS pending the hearing and determination of the case.

Following the ruling, Tuju was directed to deposit Ksh50 million as security within 30 days.

Failure to comply, it will pave the way for the auction of the Entim Sidai property as well.

The ruling comes after Tuju went to the court to stop the auction of the properties following a battle with a bank where he reportedly collected a loan worth Ksh2.2 billion.

Reports indicate the former CS had borrowed money in 2015 to expand his investment in Karen, but reportedly defaulted on the agreed payments.

Further reports indicate that bank from which Tuju had borrowed later filed a case in a UK court in 2019, obtaining a judgment to seize Dari Business Park, which Tuju had used as collateral, a judgment recognised by the Kenyan courts.

However, in 2024, Tuju moved to court to stop the auction of the property in Karen and another one along Ngong Road.

The move did not bore any fruits as he was forcibly evicted from the property by security officers and auctioneers allegedly sent by the new owners.

The former CS further pointed fingers at the government for the forceful eviction.
