NPS Issues Statement After Brutal Attack on Woman and Assault on Traffic Police

The National Police Service (NPS) has addressed three separate assault incidents reported in Nairobi, confirming that investigations are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible.

In a statement issued on Sunday, May 17, police strongly condemned the attacks and assured the public that decisive action would be taken against the perpetrators involved in each case.

One of the incidents involved a woman who was allegedly attacked and set ablaze in the Mwiki area of Kasarani after assailants reportedly confronted her over her political views.

According to police, the attackers doused the victim in petrol before setting her on fire.

The woman sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) for specialised treatment as detectives continue pursuing leads linked to the attack.

The second incident involved a motorist captured in a viral video confronting and assaulting a traffic police officer in Embakasi. Police confirmed that the driver has since been identified and legal action is underway.

In the third case, crew members of a Metro Shuttle bus allegedly attacked a traffic officer in Lang’ata while he was enforcing traffic regulations.

The suspects were arrested and the vehicle impounded.

The National Police Service condemned all three incidents, warning that political intolerance and attacks on law enforcement officers undermine the rule of law.

NPS also praised the officers involved for maintaining professionalism and restraint despite the confrontations, while urging the public to cooperate with police in maintaining peace and order.
