New State Lodge Gazetted in Homa Bay

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has officially gazetted a new State Lodge in Homa Bay County, marking a continued expansion of government accommodation facilities across the country.

The latest designation, contained in a gazette notice issued on Friday, May 15, converts the County Commissioner’s residence in Homa Bay into a fully recognized State Lodge under the Interior and National Administration docket.

According to the notice, the Homa Bay County Commissioner’s residence has been declared a State Lodge effective from the date of publication, thereby elevating its status to an official government facility.

The move is part of administrative adjustments within the Ministry of Interior aimed at strengthening state presence and operational infrastructure in key regions.

The gazettement of the Homa Bay facility follows similar actions taken over the past year, where additional State Lodges have been established through official notices.

In April 2025, the government also upgraded the Bungoma and Kwale County Commissioners’ official residences into State Lodges, further expanding the network of presidential and government hospitality facilities outside the capital.

These developments indicate a broader pattern of decentralizing state hospitality infrastructure to various counties.

By upgrading existing government residences, the state ensures that visiting high-level officials, including the President, have secure and standardized accommodation facilities during official tours across the country.

With the addition of Homa Bay, the county now joins a growing list of regions hosting State Lodges. Other areas with similar facilities include Kakamega, Eldoret, Kitale, Rumuruti, Makueni, Cherangany, Kisii, Kilifi, and Sagana.

These lodges complement existing State Houses in Nairobi, Mombasa, and Kisumu, which serve as primary official residences for the President in major urban and regional centers.
