Gachagua Claims Ruto Risks Losing Grip on Rift Valley in 2027

Rigathi Gachagua has claimed that the opposition will share the Rift Valley vote equally with President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during his tour of the United Kingdom on Saturday, May 16, Gachagua pointed to the recent Emurua Dikirr by-election as evidence of what he described as waning support for Ruto in the region considered to be his political stronghold.

The DCP leader alleged that voters in Emurua Dikirr were induced to support the UDA candidate, but maintained that a significant number still backed the DCP candidate despite the alleged incentives.

Gachagua argued that the by-election outcome demonstrated growing opposition influence in the Rift Valley, insisting that Ruto would only manage to secure half of the region’s votes in the next election.

The DCP party leader claimed that President Ruto has also lost significant support in the Nyanza region to the Linda Mwananchi political faction.

Gachagua argued that the opposition had already secured strong backing in the region, adding that the President was facing mounting political challenges ahead of the 2027 General Election.

His remarks come days after UDA candidate David Keter emerged victorious in the recent Emurua Dikirr constituency by-election.

Keter garnered 18,266 votes to defeat DCP candidate Wincent Rotich, who finished second with 10,760 votes in the mini poll.
