Sifuna Makes Fresh Call for Unity to Stop Ruto Re-Election Bid

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna on Thursday, May 14, made a call to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to work together ahead of the 2027 General Election if they intend to defeat William Ruto.

Speaking during the funeral service of EALA MP Kanini Kega’s mother, Annah Ndung’u, Sifuna urged opposition leaders to put aside past differences and build a united front.

He said the opposition would need to reconcile and move beyond past political disputes, including tensions arising from impeachment-related disagreements, in order to strengthen their chances at the ballot.

Sifuna further maintained that a united opposition ticket would be necessary to challenge Ruto’s re-election bid and urged leaders to focus on forming a common strategy going forward.

Talking of Gachagu’s impeachment, Sifuna noted that his role during the process was guided by what he believed would benefit ODM particularly in exploiting divisions within the Kenya Kwanza leadership.

He argued that although the impeachment process led to the removal of the then Deputy President, it also weakened the ruling coalition and negatively affected Ruto’s political standing ahead of future elections.

Sifuna further stated that the President now faces a more consolidated opposition, which he described as a united force preparing to challenge his re-election bid in the 2027 polls.

He also maintained that the Linda Mwananchi faction remains firm and cannot be influenced by the government, urging Gachagua to remain politically steadfast as opposition leaders continue strengthening their cooperation.
