The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) has cautioned the members of the public against fraudsters falsely claiming to facilitate compensation and reparations.
In a statement on Thursday, May 14, 2026, the commission said some individuals are soliciting money from members of the public, pretending to facilitate compensation or reparations on KNCHR’s behalf.
“The KNCHR wishes to alert the public that fraudulent individuals are soliciting money from members of the public under the false pretense of facilitating compensation or reparations on behalf of the Commission,” the commission stated.
“KNCHR does not charge any fees. All our services are free. KNCHR does not collect money from victims for registration, processing of cases, or accessing compensation, reparations or any other service offered,” it added.
Additionally, KNCHR said that it does not use private mobile money accounts or paybill numbers for any transactions.
“Anyone asking for money in exchange for compensation or reparations is a fraudster and is not affiliated with KNCHR in any way,” the commission insisted.
In response to the matter, KNCHR urged victims or anyone approached by fraudsters to report the matter immediately to the nearest police station and to keep records of any transactions.
The commission further encouraged the public to verify any claims or communications directly through its official channels.
Despite that, the commission said it is taking appropriate legal action against individuals found engaging in fraudulent activities.
