Kalonzo Musyoka and Rigathi Gachagua have emerged as the joint most preferred presidential candidates in the Mt Kenya region, according to a TIFA poll released on Thursday, May 14.
The survey showed that both Kalonzo and Gachagua enjoy 23 per cent support among voters in the region.
Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, who is associated with Jubilee Party, came third with 15 per cent support from Mt Kenya residents.

The poll also indicated that William Ruto has experienced a notable decline in support within the region, with only 9 per cent of respondents preferring him as the next president.
However, TIFA noted that Ruto still remains the most preferred presidential candidate nationally if leaders within the opposition contest separately.
He enjoys the support of 24 per cent of Kenyans, according to the latest TIFA poll, making him the most preferred presidential candidate nationally.
Kalonzo Musyoka follows with 19 per cent support, while former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i garnered 14 per cent.
Edwin Sifuna was preferred by 10 per cent of respondents, while Rigathi Gachagua received 9 per cent support nationally.
The survey indicated that although Ruto remains the country’s leading presidential contender, the relatively low national support presents an opportunity for the opposition ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The poll also showed that Ruto remains the top candidate in Nyanza, Northern, Western, South Rift and Central Rift regions, while ranking third in both the Coast and Nairobi regions.
On the other hand, Kalonzo emerged as the most preferred candidate in Lower Eastern and the Coast regions, and jointly led in Nairobi alongside Matiang’i.
Gachagua’s strongest support was found in the Mt Kenya and Northern regions.
The poll further revealed that many Kenyans prefer a Kalonzo-Sifuna ticket for the United Opposition in the 2027 presidential race.
