Environmentalist Truphena Muthoni on Friday, May 8, hugged 1,234 trees, breaking the Guinness World Record for the most trees hugged in one hour by an individual.
According to reports, the current Guinness World Record for the most trees hugged in one hour by an individual is 1,123, achieved by Abubakar Tahiru of Ghana in Auburn, Alabama, USA, on March 25, 2024.
He accomplished this feat by wrapping both arms around each tree, averaging roughly one tree every three seconds without pausing for water.
However, Truphena surpassed the target by hugging 111 more trees at the Jardim Botânico Brasília , setting a new record.
According to the enviromentalist, her target was to hug 1,172 trees.

Truphena Muthoni breaks another world record in Brazil
The announcement was made by Kenya Embassy in Brazil who revealed that the event was attended by Ambassador of the Republic of Kenya in Brazil; Amb. Peris Kariuki, Deputy Head of Mission; Mr. Allan Freire, President of Jardim Botânico Brasília; Kenyan nationals living in Brazil; and residents.
“On 8th May 2026, as part of her Environmental Awareness Tour in Brazil, Truphena Muthoni, HSC, broke the Guinness World Record for the most trees hugged in one hour. The previous record stood at 1,123 trees. Truphena surpassed it, hugging more than 1,200 trees in one hour at the Jardim Botânico Brasília”, part of the statement from the Embassy read.
After securing the win, Truphena was congratulated by both the Ambassador and the President of Jardim Botânico Brasília who acknowledged her previous milestones, a 48-hour and a 72-hour sustained single tree hug.
