The Kenya Transporters Association (KTA) has called on the Ministry of Energy to address the fuel shortage in the country ahead of the next fuel price review.
In a statement, the association called for transparency on the true status of national fuel stocks, an explanation for the shortages, measures being taken to stabilise supply, and timelines for normalisation of fuel supply.
According to the transporters, the ongoing shortages are severely affecting transport operations, cargo movement, supply chains, and the wider economy.
“The Kenya Transporters Association expresses serious concern over the ongoing fuel shortages being experienced across the country, which are now severely affecting transport operations,” the Association stated.

Kenya Transporters Association has called for authorities to address fuel shortage
According to transporters, they are currently forced to spend valuable working hours queuing for fuel instead of delivering cargo and serving customers, leading to stranded trucks and disrupted schedules.
The situation being experienced on the ground contradicts earlier government assurances that the country had sufficient fuel reserves and that there was no cause for alarm.
“The transport sector is the bloodstream of the economy. When transport slows down, the economy slows down,” it added.
KTA further disclosed that many fuel stations across the country are either dry, rationing fuel, or experiencing unusually long queues, forcing transporters to divert trucks in search of fuel.
The association also revealed that the current situation is already disrupting regional cargo movement and damaging the country’s reputation as a reliable regional logistics and trade hub.
