National Police Service Launches Probe Into Harassment Claims Involving Traffic Officer

The National Police Service (NPS) has condemned a video trending online showing the harassment of a female traffic officer by another police officer while performing her duties in Nakuru County.

The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday, May 6, where the female officer reportedly stopped a vehicle she thought was a normal motorist, only to find it was a cop.

What followed was an argument with the officer jumping out of his vehicle to confront the traffic woman.

Reports indicate that the officer subjected the female traffic officer to verbal abuse and intimidation, undermining her authority by asserting his position within the service.

“He called me ‘stupid’. I told him that I am also an officer and I hadn’t even seen his uniform, but he was insulting me as he was trying to drive away,” the female officer said on the viral video.

In response to the matter, NPS condemned the harassment, emphasising that such behaviour is unlawful.

“The National Police Service condemns this behaviour in the strongest possible terms. Such conduct is not only unlawful but also directly contradicts the core values of professionalism, discipline, respect, and integrity for which the NPS stands,” NPS stated.

According to the service, preliminary investigations have revealed that the male motorist involved is also a police officer stationed in Nakuru County.

“No officer, regardless of gender or rank, should be subjected to harassment while serving the public and upholding the law. The actions displayed by the male officer do not, in any way, represent the ethos, training, or code of conduct of the National Police Service,” It added.

NPS further assured that it has initiated disciplinary and corrective measures against the officer, highlighting that swift action will be taken to address violations and ensure that officers performing their duties are protected from intimidation and harassment.
