Kang’ata Drops UDA Ticket for 2027 Murang’a Gubernatorial Bid

Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata has announced that he will not seek re-election on the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket in the 2027 General Election.

Speaking on Sunday, May 3, Kang’ata noted that the decision was reached after careful consideration, adding that he will unveil the political platform he intends to use for his re-election bid at a later stage.

Kang’ata went on to clarify that his move should not be interpreted as a fallout with the ruling party, signaling that his relationship with UDA remains intact despite the shift in strategy.

He further affirmed his commitment to serving the people of Murang’a and pledged to continue working closely with William Ruto and the national government for the remainder of his term.

“I have no doubt to say that after careful reflection, I wish to state that come 2027, I will not defend my seat on the current party ticket. I will later at a certain stage communicate the platform which I will present myself to the electorate. However, until then, I will remain a disciplined and committed member of UDA party. I will continue to serve diligently in my capacity and to cooperate with the national government in delivering development to our people. I will remain loyal to the President and also to the party during the remainder of this term,” Kang’ata noted.

The county boss clarified that he has no ambitions for national executive office, stressing that his focus remains on retaining the county’s top seat.

He also distanced himself from 2027 campaign rhetoric during President Ruto’s development tour in Murang’a, opting instead to highlight his county projects rather than engage in political chants.

Kang’ata explained that his presence at the rally was out of respect for the Office of the President, while noting that a leg injury limited his participation in most of the tour alongside Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.

He maintained that strong cooperation between Murang’a County and the national government remains crucial, particularly in advancing key development and industrialisation initiatives.
