Justice Warsame Abdulahi Mohammed Selected as Supreme Court Nominee

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has nominated Justice Mohamed Abdulahi Warsame for the position of Supreme Court judge pending President William Ruto’s appointment.

In a statement on Wednesday, April 26, the Chief Justice Martha Koome revealed that the commission had nominated Honourable Abdullahi Wasame.

“I am therefore pleased to announce that the Judicial Service Commission has nominated the Honourable Mr Justice Mohamed Abdullahi Wasame for appointment to the Supreme Court of Kenya,” stated Chief Justice Martha Koome.

According to reports, in Article 166(1)(b) of the Constitution, the President appoints Supreme Court judges based on the recommendation of the JSC.

The appointment is formally announced through a Gazette Notice.

Warsame was among the last candidates to face the JSC panel on Wednesday, April 29, and was nominated hours after his interview concluded.

Before his nomination, Warseme had been serving at the Court of Appeal since 2012.

Warsame was a High Court Judge in the Commercial Division and Criminal Division and was also in charge of the Judicial Review Division of the High Court.Warsame holds a Bachelor of Law (LLB) from the University of Nairobi and a Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.

He is set to join judges Chief Justice Martha Koome, Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu, Justice Mohammed Ibrahim, Justice Smokin Wanjala, Lady Justice Njoki Ndung’u, Justice Isaac Lenaola, and Justice William Ouko, forming part of the seven-judge bench.
