In a statement issued by the DPP, the court found that the two officers were responsible for the death of Amos Kemosi Kereri while he was in police custody at Nyamatoki Police Post on August 19, 2019.

The court determined that the two jointly committed the offence while on duty.

According to the prosecution, the officers, together with others, had arrested Kereri during a night patrol and took him to the police post.

While in custody, he was assaulted by the two officers. He was later taken to hospital the following morning, where he was pronounced dead.

The prosecution presented a total of 14 witnesses to support the case, providing evidence that linked the officers to the unlawful killing.

The case was led by Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Joel Chirchir, who successfully demonstrated the officersโ€™ culpability before the court.
