CS Murkomen, IG Kanja in Haiti as Kenya Wraps Up Police Deployment

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Monday, April 27, visited the remaining Kenyan officers serving under the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission in Haiti as the drawdown phase nears completion.

In a statement issued by the National Police Service (NPS), Murkomen was accompanied by Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja.

The two were received by MSS Commander Godfrey Otunge and Kenya’s Consul General to Haiti Noor Gabow.

During the visit, the CS was briefed on the ongoing activities and operations of the MSS, including key achievements of the Kenya-led mission, particularly efforts toward pacification and stabilization.

The Interior boss went on to address the Kenyan officers, congratulating them for their dedication and sacrifice in efforts to restore law and order in Haiti.

He also conveyed a message of goodwill from President William Samoei Ruto, alongside a broader message of support from the Kenyan public.

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja similarly praised the officers, commending their professionalism, discipline and commitment throughout the mission.

Following the visit, the remaining 150 police officers departed Haiti for Nairobi, marking the official conclusion of the deployment and the drawdown process.

This development follows a phased return of Kenyan officers deployed under the MSS mission in Haiti.

The fourth batch of 150 officers arrived at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on April 21, joining earlier groups that had already returned.

The first contingent of 230 officers came back on December 9, 2025, followed by a second group of 215 on March 17 and a third batch of 208 on March 24.
