The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has dismissed as fake a viral social media post claiming that a suspect linked to hate speech has been released.
According to the DCI, the individual is still in custody pending arraignment.
This comes after an online user named Yussuf Ahmed Ali posted an image with the said suspect Bare Sahara Ahmed claiming that she was released.
“Finally, our daughter has been released thank you H.E MM shidiye,” he wrote.
DCI rebutted, noting that Bare is still in their custody and is appearing before the Kahawa Law Courts on Monday morning.
The suspect was taken into custody on Sunday after investigations into a widely shared video that was purported to include inciteful statements and could jeopardise national unity.
The arrest reportedly came came after what the DCI called a “thorough review” of the tape, during which investigators tried to determine the context of her statements.
The authority further warned that statements that could cause hatred, division, or interfere with peaceful coexistence will be dealt with severely.
