The CEO of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Abdi Mohamud, has been elected President of the Eastern Africa Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (EAAACA).
This marks a significant milestone for Kenyaβs leadership in the regional fight against graft.
According to a statement by the EACC, Mohamud formally assumed the position during the 16th Annual General Meeting of the association held in Nairobi from April 20 to 24, 2026, bringing together anti-corruption agencies from across Eastern Africa.
Before his appointment, Mohamud served as Vice President of EAAACA for two years, positioning him as a key figure in shaping the bodyβs strategic direction and regional cooperation frameworks.
The EACC boss takes over from Ugandan judge Naluzze Aisha Batala, who was praised for her leadership and commitment to strengthening anti-corruption efforts across member states during her tenure.
With the new position, Mohamud expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him, pledging to build on the foundation laid by his predecessor while advancing stronger collaboration among member institutions.
Additionally, the EACC boss maintained that tackling corruption in the region requires coordinated cross-border efforts, noting that no single country can effectively address transnational financial crimes in isolation.
Mohamud will be expected to strengthen mutual legal assistance frameworks, enhancing intelligence sharing, and promoting joint investigations among anti-corruption agencies.
He also expressed plans to launch a Centre for Research on Ethics and Anti-Corruption (CEREAC) in June 2026 in Nairobi, describing it as a critical step toward evidence-based policymaking and enforcement.
