Isiolo Residents Surrender Illegal Weapons Amid Security Crackdown

Two illegal firearms have been surrendered to police in Isiolo County in an ongoing security crackdown dubbed Operation Dumisha Usalama.

In a statement by the National Police Service, the weapons were handed over by two residents from the Lowangila area in Isiolo North Sub-County on Sunday, April 13, 2026.

According to the statement, the residents surrendered an AK-47 rifle and a G3 rifle together with magazines and ammunition.

“Members of the public continue to respond positively to the ongoing “Operation Dumisha Usalama”. Yesterday, 13th April 2026, two residents of the Lowangila area voluntarily surrendered an AK-47 and a G3 rifle to the National Police Service in Isiolo North Sub-County”, the statement read.

The Service noted that the weapons were immediately secured after being received by officers in the area.

The police also commended the residents for cooperating with security agencies and supporting efforts aimed at improving safety in the region, which has previously faced challenges related to the circulation of illegal firearms.

They further encouraged individuals still holding illegal weapons to take advantage of the ongoing amnesty period and surrender them to law enforcement agencies without fear of prosecution.

“The National Police Service commends members of the public for their continued cooperation in this security operation.We urge anyone still in possession of illegal weapons to take advantage of the current amnesty period and surrender them to the nearest police station”, the statement added.
