Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi of the ODM Linda Mwananchi faction was injured after he was attacked by armed goons in Kisumu on Wednesday, April 8.

According to a statement from his Director of Communication, Derick Luvega, the incident occurred at Java Restaurant, where the senator had gone to meet a friend and interact with members of the public.

Luvega stated that Osotsi was confronted by a group of individuals reportedly armed with guns, who accosted and physically manhandled him in full view of bystanders.

He indicated that the attack was linked to the senator’s political position, noting that the confrontation followed Osotsi’s expressed support for the ‘Wantam’ brigade

.The senator’s Communications Director stated that Osotsi’s security team refrained from discharging their firearms during the incident to avoid endangering members of the public.

Edwin Sifuna, the Nairobi Senator, confirmed that his Vihiga counterpart, Godfrey Osotsi, was being airlifted to Nairobi for specialised medical attention following the attack.

Sifuna condemned the assault and called on law enforcement agencies to fast-track investigations and apprehend those responsible.

Osotsi’s team has also urged police to review CCTV footage from the restaurant to aid in identifying the attackers and ensure they are brought to justice.

Luvega maintained that the incident was isolated, emphasizing that it should not be interpreted as hostility from residents of Kisumu County toward the senator or the Linda Mwananchi movement.

The attack comes amid ongoing political tensions, with Osotsi having openly disagreed with the Orange Democratic Movement leadership over its support for President William Ruto’s re-election bid.

He was subsequently removed from his position as ODM Deputy Party Leader during a Special Delegates Conference after expressing dissenting views.

Osotsi, alongside Sifuna and Babu Owino, has consistently opposed the broad-based government framework, arguing that it does not adequately serve the interests of ordinary citizens.
