Kenya Energy Regulator EPRA Appoints Joseph Oketch as Acting DG

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has appointed Dr. Eng. Joseph Oketch as its Acting Director General, following the resignation of former Director General Daniel Kiptoo.

In a statement issued on Sunday, April 5, the EPRA Board said the appointment aligns with the Authority’s mandate as Kenya’s regulator of the energy and petroleum sector.

Oketch currently serves as the head of EPRA’s Electricity and Renewable Energy Directorate.

In this role, he oversees the development, review, and enforcement of regulations, standards, and codes governing the country’s electricity and renewable energy sub-sectors.

He brings over 25 years of experience in the energy industry to his new position.

Prior to joining EPRA ten years ago, Oketch held senior roles at Kenya Power and the Rural Electrification Authority, where he built extensive expertise in power sector management and infrastructure development.

Dr. Eng. Joseph Oketch holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Nairobi, as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Project Planning and Management from the same institution. 

He also earned a Master of Business Administration and a PhD in Strategic Management from Kenyatta University.

Oketch is a member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) and the Kenya Institute of Management (KIM), and is a registered professional engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK).
