Kenya and Mozambique Expand Cooperation with Three Strategic MoUs

Kenya and Mozambique have signed three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation between the two nations.

The agreements were formalised on Thursday, March 26, following a meeting between President William Ruto and Daniel Francisco Chapo at State House in Nairobi.

The MoUs cover key areas including diplomatic training, research and capacity building; cooperation in penitentiary and prison services to enhance standards in correctional systems; and collaboration in youth and sports to promote development and exchange programmes.

Following the signing, President Ruto described the agreements as a significant step forward in deepening ties between the two countries.

He noted that both leaders had committed to ensuring the timely implementation of the MoUs so that citizens of Kenya and Mozambique can fully benefit from the partnership.

Ruto also revealed that the talks focused on strengthening trade and economic cooperation, with both countries identifying key areas for growth and investment.

The leaders highlighted sectors with strong potential, including pharmaceuticals, tea, edible oils, cosmetics, industrial manufacturing, agro-processing, and energy.

“We agreed to ensure they are timely and effectively implemented so that our people derive maximum benefit from this partnership. We welcome the steady progress made and the strong opportunities for further expansion and diversification of our trade. We identified key areas of growth, including pharmaceuticals, tea, edible oils, cosmetics, industrial products, agro-processing, and energy,” Ruto noted.

Daniel Francisco Chapo arrived in Kenya on Tuesday, March 24, for a three-day state visit and was received at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku.
