Two Al-Shabaab Fighters Killed, Four Injured in Mandera Operation

Two suspected Al Shabaab Terrorists have been killed and while several others injured by the Special Operations Group (SOG).

In a statement, the Counter Terrorism Police Unit confirmed that the operation took place on the outskirts of Sorira, Mandera County, just before Eid al-Fitr celebrations on Friday, March 20, 2026.

According to police reports, SOG officers received intelligence about a planned infiltration, in which they were able to track the insurgents with the help of aerial assets.

“As Kenyans were engaged in Eid celebrations, our brave and resilient SOG officers undertook an intelligence-led operation against terrorists who attempted to infiltrate the Kenya border,” the statement read.

“SOG officers laid an ambush for a group of terrorists on the outskirts of Sarira, Mandera. The officers backed by intelligence aerial assets waited for radical elements,” the statement added.

Further reports indicate that the officers ambushed the individuals, effectively eliminating two and injuring four others.

However, the rest of the group fled to Somalia under heavy firepower.

“SOG carried out the assault, killing 2 terrorists and critically injured 4 terrorists while the rest of Al Shabaab fighters ran away deep into Somalia under heavy firepower from our officers”.
