The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has secured the conviction of a Somali national linked to the outlawed Al-Shabaab militia group.
In a statement on Thursday, March 19, the ODPP confirmed that Abdikarim Hassanow Hassan, also known as Ali, was found guilty on multiple terrorism-related charges under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, 2012.
The prosecution presented evidence showing that Hassan was actively involved in recruitment, radicalization, and facilitation of terrorist activities.

He was confirmed to be an active member of Al-Shabaab, which is designated as a terrorist organization.
Hassan was also found to have organized meetings in support of the Al-Shabaab militia, fully aware of the group’s extremist agenda.
During the trial, the prosecution established that Hassan targeted and radicalized a minor, luring the victim into joining the militant group.
He provided logistical support, including travel arrangements and financial assistance, while promising incentives such as training and financial rewards.
The court found the minor’s testimony credible and consistent, playing a key role in demonstrating a deliberate pattern of indoctrination and recruitment.
In delivering the judgment, Magistrate Boaz Ombewa noted that the prosecution had met the threshold of proof beyond a reasonable doubt for all charges, establishing Hassan as the facilitator, recruiter, financier, and radicalizer in the case.
The case is scheduled to be mentioned on April 20, 2026, when the court will set a date for sentencing.
