The Russian Embassy in Kenya has confirmed six dead and thirty-seven civilians injured after a missile strike hit the Russian city.
In a statement released on March 11, 2026, the embassy said that there was a missile strike which allegedly and deliberately targeted civilians in Bryansk, a city located in western Russia near the border with Ukraine.
“6 civilians were killed and 37 wounded in a missile strike by Ukraine on Bryansk city in Russia. The Kiev regime deliberately targeted civilians,” the Russian Embassy stated.
However, the Russian diplomatic mission in Nairobi was unable to establish whether any Kenyan nationals were among the victims killed during the attack that left dozens nursing injuries.
The embassy further called on the international community to intervene as they faulted Ukraine for continued aggression against civilians.
This comes at a time when Kenyans have raised concerns, especially those families whose relatives travelled to Russia after being recruited to fight in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.
On the other hand, Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Singoei has held meetings with Russian and Ukrainian diplomats in Nairobi to explore possible mechanisms for tracing and repatriating Kenyan nationals affected by the conflict.
