The Ministry of Health has refuted social media reports alleging that Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale was involved in a road accident.
In a statement issued on Sunday, March 8, the ministry clarified that Duale’s convoy only stopped at the scene of an accident in Otonglo, near the Molasses Plant in Kisumu, while he was heading to Kisumu International Airport.
According to the ministry, the Health CS quickly coordinated an emergency medical response to assist those injured in the crash.

“The motorcade of the Cabinet Secretary for Health, Aden Duale, today stopped at the scene of a road traffic accident at Otonglo, near the Molasses Plant in Kisumu, where the Cabinet Secretary mobilised an emergency medical response to assist the victims,” read the statement.
Authorities further confirmed that two people died at the scene, while another victim later succumbed to injuries while being rushed to hospital.
Meanwhile, 19 passengers sustained injuries in the crash and were rushed to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu for treatment.
According to the Ministry, emergency rescue efforts were immediately coordinated after the accident, leading to the evacuation of more than 19 injured victims to the referral hospital for urgent medical care.
Authorities also confirmed that two people died at the scene, while another victim succumbed to injuries while being transported to hospital.
The ministry conveyed its condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished a swift recovery to those currently receiving treatment.
Speaking later during an Iftar dinner on Sunday night, CS Duale explained that he arrived late to the event because he had stopped at the accident scene to ensure the injured passengers received assistance and were taken to hospital.
Duale was heading from a thanksgiving ceremony held for Medical Services Principal Secretary Ouma Oluga in Rarieda, Siaya County.
The event attracted several prominent leaders, including William Ruto, Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi, Oburu Odinga, Interior PS Raymond Omollo, Ida Odinga, and Gladys Wanga.
