The family of the late Gerald Mwangi who was mostly known as Makanga Bae had alleged that the money contributed by well-wishers after the death of their kin had been mismanaged.
The allegation came during the burial of the deceased and the family accused Michael Muturi for the mismanagement of the funds.
Speaking in an interview with Jeff Kuria, Michael Muturi who is alleged to have mismanaged the funds has given his side of the story and started by explaining how everything started and how he was involved with the contributed funds.

“He had an accident on Waiyaki Way, he was thrown out of the car after their car was hit by another. He was hospitalized at KNH, I have to attend to all accidents involving our vehicles. He was in ICU. He was bleeding internally and needed 7 pints of blood. I mobilized people and they came. The doctor also said money was needed to buy some medications to stop clotting before he went into surgery. We raised 19K, we made a challenge where people would contribute sh100 a day. His leg had started rotting so the toxins had risen to his body. I would go visit him every lunch hour and at 4:00 PM. On the day he died his mum and I were at the hospital. He died at around 11:00 PM, that night.”
According to him, after the death of Makanga Bae, the bill was released but the family did not have money.
“The bill came to 600K plus., We paid 350K bill, We remained with a bill of over 212K. We later paid sh112K without the parents.
Muturi further noted that after the postmortem the family distanced themselves from Makanga Bae’s alleged wife.
‘ The money needed was Sh117K for postmortem, and mortuary transfer among other things. We ended up paying Sh 73,000 after being given a discount. Makanga Bae’s mum ended up going with the receipt. The money by out touts came to Sh63,000. We decided to send the cash to Makanga Bae’s wife. The company also called me and I sent the name of Makanga Bae’s mum. The company provides money for a casket. We promised to cater for food and water.”
He also disclosed that there was another group that had allegedly contributed Sh 120,000 which was sent to the family.
Talking on the allegation that he mismanaged the funds, Muturi denied mismanaging any money adding that the family already had disagreements on where Makanga Bae would be buried
‘They said they won’t dress him in clothes we had bought. I only went to the morgue, once his body left I went back as I had done my job. I have been deducted Sh 63,000 and am at peace.”
