Four members of the Gatundu North NG-CDF Committee have been arrested for allegedly extorting Ksh300,000 from a contractor in exchange for approving a pending payment of Ksh9.1 million.
The arrests were made on Wednesday, February 25, by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) following an undercover operation, the commission confirmed in a statement on Thursday, February 26.
The officials named in the arrest are Annah Mugure Njoroge, Susan Wanjiru Muchiri, Stephen Waititu Mungai, and James Kibe Ngige.

The alleged bribe was reportedly demanded to authorize payments for completed works at Karure Primary School.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the contractor had completed three projects: construction of a modern kitchen, levelling and landscaping works, and renovation of the administration block along with six classrooms.
Payment for the projects was formally requested on January 31, 2026, prior to the alleged bribe demand.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) said the payment was allegedly withheld despite the contractor completing the works, leading to claims of extortion.
According to the commission, the four committee members reportedly blocked the payment, citing unspecified issues.
On February 23, 2026, the contractor met with three of the suspects, who allegedly demanded Ksh300,000 to avoid raising objections to the release of the funds.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) said the suspects were apprehended during a sting operation after accepting Ksh250,000 from the contractor.
The operation, conducted on February 25, 2026, led to their arrest at Karure Primary School.
The suspects were taken to the Integrity Centre for processing before being booked at Kilimani Police Station.
They were later released on cash bail of Ksh40,000 each, pending the conclusion of investigations.
