Residents are counting losses after a night fire razed several houses in Kangemi.

The blaze broke out along Marega Road in the Bata area late at night, prompting an emergency response after the incident was reported.

Videos shared online showed intense flames engulfing one house before spreading quickly to neighbouring structures, as residents watched helplessly.

Preliminary findings suggest the blaze may have been sparked by a gas explosion, though investigations are still underway to establish the exact cause.

As the fire intensified, residents and onlookers maintained a safe distance, helplessly watching as the flames rapidly consumed the affected homes.

The incident occurred just weeks after residents of Donholm estate in Nairobi were forced to evacuate their homes following a gas explosion that sparked a massive fire near a well-known eatery.

The blaze erupted near the TotalEnergies petrol station in Donholm, opposite the popular Triple K area, triggering panic as a series of explosions rang out in quick succession.

Families fled as debris and gas cylinders were hurled into the air. Witness accounts indicated the fire is believed to have started inside a nearby hotel before spreading swiftly to adjacent buildings.

Residents said the flames first consumed the eatery, then extended to a neighbouring clinic, eventually reaching a gas cylinder depot situated next to the premises.

Once the fire reached the depot, gas cylinders reportedly began exploding consecutively, intensifying the inferno and compounding the destruction.

The blasts sent metal fragments and cylinders flying, shattering windows in surrounding buildings and damaging several vehicles parked nearby.

Shaken residents described running from their homes in fear as loud explosions echoed across the estate.

Emergency crews and county disaster teams swiftly responded to contain the blaze and assess the damage.

Firefighters brought the fire under control before it could spread to nearby homes and businesses.

By mid-morning, the situation had been contained, although authorities had yet to confirm the extent of the damage or any injuries.
