Phase II of the redevelopment of the Homa Bay Pier into a modern feeder port has reached 70 per cent completion, the Ministry of Interior has announced.
In a statement issued on Monday, February 23, Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo said the current stage of works is centred on upgrading key port infrastructure to enhance operations.
A pier is a raised structure extending from the shoreline into a water body, commonly used for docking vessels and supporting fishing activities.

The ongoing works include construction of modern terminal buildings, warehouses backed by three power houses, a ferry waiting bay, and a permanent office for the Kenya Ports Authority.
The second phase of the project also features additional security and operational infrastructure, including a pedestrian screening booth and two 32-cubic-metre water storage tanks.
Reflecting on the transformation, Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo noted that the Homa Bay lakefront was once an overlooked and underutilised swampland.
The upgraded facility is expected to act as a strategic transport link for lakeside counties, including Migori County, Kisumu County, Siaya County and Busia County.
Omollo added that the redevelopment is being supervised by the Department for Internal Security and National Administration to ensure security compliance and seamless implementation.
He further disclosed that the government is building a new public ferry service linking Homa Bay to Kisumu, Mbita and surrounding islands such as Mfangano Island to enhance regional trade and mobility.
