Five people have been confirmed dead following a a grisly road accident along the Mombasa-Nairobi Highways.
According to reports, the incident was triggered by a head-on collision involving a Naekana public service vehicle (PSV) and a lorry.
According to reports, two of the victims were students from Emali Township who were travelling home for the half-term break when the crash occurred.
Further reports indicate that the crash may have been caused by poor visibility and the slippery road surface attributed to the ongoing rains being experienced in many parts of the country.
The police who responded to the scene encountered challenges coordinating rescue efforts due to the absence of readily available emergency ambulances.
This forced the officers to improvise transport arrangements to evacuate the deceased and seriously injured victims.
One of the female student from Ukia Girls High School, is reported to be in critical condition.
