Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, has addressed complaints received from a parent after young learners are forced to walk barefoot.
Reports indicate that the learners were punished harshly for not having the correct school uniforms after their shoes were confiscated.
In a statement on his social media account, Mosiria stated that no child should ever go through such treatment.
“To the parent who shared this information, I have received your complaint, and I want to state clearly that no child deserves such punishment. This is especially concerning at a time when the President has already directed that all children should be allowed to attend school with or without full uniforms as parents make arrangements to provide them, so that no learner misses classes”, Mosiria stated.
He therefore vowed to take action against those who are performing such act as the dignity of children should be protected at all costs.
” I will take up this matter to ensure it is addressed appropriately and that the rights and dignity of our children are protected. It is unacceptable to expect a child to walk barefoot to a public toilet, particularly in a city like Nairobi where this exposes them to serious health and safety risks”, he added.
In his prompt for justice, he called upon the head teacher of Langata West Primary School to take immediate action towards the matter so that it won’t repeat itself.
He also vowed to make sure proper measures are enforced to safeguard our children.
The Nairobi County Chief Officers futher urged parents to reports such cases and ensure action is taken.
“To parents, I urge you not to remain silent when children are subjected to such treatment. Speak up and report these cases. At the same time, let us all play our role by striving to provide our children with the necessary school uniforms and support they need to learn with dignity”
