Mwabili Mwagodi Detained at Kenya–Tanzania Border in DCI-Led Operation

Kenyan activist Mwabili Mwagodi has allegedly been apprehended and is being detained at the Lunga Lunga Police Station.

This was after he was allegedly blocked from leaving the country on Sunday, February 15, 2026.

In a statement on X account on Monday, February 16, 2026, the activist claimed that he was stopped from leaving the country on his way to Dar es Salaam yesterday, on a Red notice issued against his passport.

According to Mwagodi, the alert was issued in early 2025 by a Directorate of Criminal Investigation Officer (DCI) stationed at the Mazingira House along Kiambu Road.

“On my way to Dar es Salaam on 15th February 2026, I was denied exit out of Kenya at the Lunga Lunga border by the Immigration department due to a Red Notice issued against my passport around Jan/Feb 2025 by a DCI officer – Serious Crimes Unit at Mazingira House on Kiambu Road,” the activist said.

“The officer issued the warrant of arrest but did not indicate the crime I committed and/or what I am to be charged with,” he added.

According to the activist, the police are waiting further instructions from the DCI.

” I was handed over to DCI at the Lunga Lunga Border Police Post, and they are waiting for instructions from Mazingira House on what I am being detained for, and what they should do with me,” Mwagodi said.
