Senator Edwin Sifuna has rejected his dismissal as the Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
In a press briefing on Thursday, February 12, 2026, Sifuna termed the party’s National Executive Council’s (NEC) decision to remove him from the position as illegitimate.
“I have taken note of the announcement made by a section of the ODM National Executive Committee in Mombasa yesterday purporting to remove me from the position of secretary general of ODM. Let me state without fear of contradiction that this action is unlawful, unprocedural and a blatant violation of the ODM constitution as well as the principles of natural justice,” the Senator Stated.
“I remain a loyal member and the duly elected Secretary General of the ODM party. I remain committed to the struggle for a fair, just and democratic Kenya,” he added, noting that he would still serve in his position”, he added.
According to Sifuna, his removal followed his firm stance against supporting Ruto’s 2027 re-election, and yet, he promised to remain firm in his decision.
“As far as internal differences in opinion go, my only cry is that I have refused and opposed any plan and scheme within the party to support President Ruto’s reelection. I have held and continue to keep the firm position that this country cannot afford another five years of this expensive and incompetent Ruto misadventure”
The new party leader was installed unprocedurally and unconstitutionally. These shortcuts and unlawful ethics reflect bad manners that progressive institutions and individuals pick up when they get cosy with President William Ruto,” added.
This comes a day after the ODM Leadership Council announced the removal of Sifuna as the Secretary General of the Party.
In the announcement, he was succeeded by Catherine Wamonyo, Busia Women Representative.
