ODM Removes Senator Edwin Sifuna as Secretary General

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has relieved Senator Edwin Sifuna of his duties as the Secretary General.

This was after the ODM senior leadership National Executive Council Resolution meeting held on Wednesday, February 11., 2026.

“The National Executive Council (NEC) expressed concern over rising levels of indiscipline within the party, especially within senior leadership positions. The committee declared that ODM is governed by the the constitutional rule of law and collective decision-making through its duly constituted organs,” the statement read.

“Having deliberated on matters relating to the conduct of Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, the NEC resolved to remove him from office effective immediately”, the statement added.

The former Secretary General is now succeeded by Busia women representative Catherine Omayo, who previously acted as the party’s deputy Secretary General.

He new acting role will see her oversee the Secretariat as ODM prepares for a National Delegates Convention (NDC) scheduled for March 27, 2026.

The new development comes after the ODM Party leader had warned Sifuna that he would take serious action against him.

Sifuna had previously slammed the government and consistently reiterated that he would not align with the Kenya Kwanza administration, regardless of what the ODM leadership resolved.

ODM leadership further resolved to initiate the formal process to exit the Azimio la Umoja One coalition.

It also adopted resolutions mandating party leader Dr Oburu Oginga to spearhead coalition negotiations on behalf of ODM as it repositions itself ahead of the 2027 General Election.
