Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have recovered two commercial lorries that were stolen in Murang’a County and later traced to Mombasa.
In a statement on Sunday, February 8, the DCI explained that officers from its Operation Support Unit relied on intelligence to identify suspects and ultimately recover the vehicles, which had been altered in an attempt to avoid detection.
The case involved two lorries that were stolen in Gatanga, Murang’a County, in August last year.

Investigators said the theft prompted an intensive probe that led to the identification and arrest of the individuals believed to be behind the operation.
They added that information obtained from suspect interrogations provided key leads, ultimately guiding officers to Mombasa County, where the stolen lorries were recovered.
Investigators moreover noted that the vehicles had been fitted with counterfeit number plates in an effort to disguise their identities.

With the vehicles now secured, the DCI said arrangements are being made to return the lorries to their owners following the successful recovery operation.
The five suspects remain in police custody and are being processed as detectives prepare to arraign them in court.
