Security Officers Among Suspects as DCI Busts Extortion Ring in Mtito Andei

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have apprehended three suspects, including a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer and a police officer, over an alleged extortion ring operating in Mtito Andei.

In a statement shared on Saturday, the DCI revealed that the suspects have been extorting money from bar owners and members of the public, moving from one establishment to another while posing as security operatives.

According to DCI, the suspects drove around the township in a white Toyota Axio, using intimidation and perceived authority to coerce victims into surrendering cash.

Further reports indicate that the car the trio were using bore a fake registration number.

During the operation, the police recovered a black pistol holster, a pair of handcuffs, and other items believed to have been used to intimidate victims during the extortion activities.

The suspects were immediately taken into custody and later subjected to an identification parade.

According to reports, several victims positively identified them as the individuals who had extorted money from them.
