Suna East MP Junet Mohamed has dismissed any prospect of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) holding talks with former DP Rigathi Gachagua’s Democratic Change Party (DCP) ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking on Wednesday, the National Assembly Minority Leader said ODM could not engage politically with Gachagua, whom he accused of promoting divisive and tribal politics that undermine national cohesion.
Junet noted that Gachagua’s public rhetoric, which he said often targets specific communities and frames politics around ethnic “shareholding,” makes any form of cooperation impossible.

He further referenced Gachagua’s impeachment, arguing that it reflects serious leadership concerns incompatible with ODM’s values.
Despite dismissing any engagement with Gachagua, Junet conceded that political dynamics are often unpredictable, noting that alliances can shift as the 2027 General Election approaches.
He observed that politics is inherently fluid, with today’s rivals capable of becoming tomorrow’s allies and vice versa, describing such shifts as a normal feature of the political landscape.
Junet noted that ODM is yet to decide whether it will support President Ruto in the 2027 election, noting that discussions are still at an early stage and no commitments have been made.
He also declined to pledge ODM’s backing for Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, despite acknowledging his loyalty to Raila Odinga, explaining that past coalition agreements were election-specific and ended after failing to form government.
Junet added that it is up to Kalonzo to formally engage ODM leadership if he seeks the party’s support ahead of 2027.
