East Africa has moved closer to making history after Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania officially received the hosting flag for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, signaling their readiness to stage the continental showpiece.
The ceremonial handover took place in Rabat, Morocco, where CAF President Patrice Motsepe presented the flag following the AFCON final between Senegal and Morocco.
In a statement on Sunday, January 18, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed said the event marked a major milestone for the East African region, underscoring its readiness to jointly host the continental tournament and deliver a memorable edition of African football.

Mohammed went on to note that Kenya plans to leverage the experience and lessons learned from hosting the African Nations Championship to deliver an even better tournament in 2027.
He confirmed that the country is committed to surpassing the standards set during CHAN and is already focused on preparations for the upcoming AFCON.
“Tonight marks a proud moment for our region as Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania officially receive the flag to host AFCON 2027. East Africa is ready, and Kenya is looking forward to playing its part in delivering a tournament that will leave a lasting mark on African football. After setting new standards with the most successful CHAN in history, we are determined to raise the bar even higher in 2027. The journey begins now.’’
