Wetang’ula Assures Public on Kwanza MP’s Recovery Progress

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has confirmed that Kwanza MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi is in stable condition and receiving specialised treatment at KIMS Health Care Management Limited in Kerala, India.

Wanyonyi, who has been absent from parliamentary duties for much of 2025, is under the care of a multidisciplinary medical team led by Indian specialists in physical medicine and rehabilitation.

The team has reported positive progress, noting that the lawmaker is responding well to treatment and rehabilitation.

Following a visit to the hospital, Wetang’ula expressed optimism about Wanyonyi’s recovery and commended the medical staff for their professionalism and dedication.

He also conveyed Parliament’s appreciation and the goodwill of Kenyans for the care being provided to the MP.

The Speaker added that India, particularly Kerala, has emerged as a preferred destination for Kenyans seeking specialised medical care due to its advanced technology, quality services, and affordability.

He noted that Kenya is working towards adopting similar healthcare systems.

Wetang’ula said the visit offered valuable insights into possible collaboration between Kenyan and Indian health institutions, including specialist training, research, and structured referral programmes to strengthen Kenya’s healthcare capacity.

He also recalled dismissing false reports in December last year claiming Wanyonyi had died, terming them malicious and insensitive.

The Speaker clarified that the MP was first admitted to a Nairobi hospital before being referred to India for specialised treatment.

Wetang’ula further revealed that Wanyonyi has been accompanied by his wife and daughter throughout the treatment period, providing constant support and updates on his condition.
